Sabbatical Day 4- Elijah Monroe Grate

Old Soul
"A spiritual person whom is wise beyond their years; people of strong emotional stability. Basically, someone whom has more understanding of the world around them."

Elijah was born with an old soul. There has always been a built in wisdom and deep discipline oozing from him since the day of his birth. Basically, he is the complete opposite of me. His room looks like a museum, he organizes my barns because they exude a messiness that is below his cleanliness standards, and takes initiative when he sees something that needs to be done without asking. Eli's heart has always been with those fragile, fringe people whom others tend to ignore. I think he learned this at Greenhouse Church. I've never met a more color blind, non-judgemental person in my life. Last year we received a phone call from one of Elijahs teachers. He had won an award that we were completely unaware of. On the first day of school, when he entered his homeroom class, there was a young man with sever Aspbergers that everyone was sitting as far away as possible from. Eli noticed. He moved his things to the desk right beside him, and for the entire year befriended him and helped him calm down and stay focused. He received the special needs awareness award. When I got the phone call, had to pull over. Tears poured from my eyes and landed in my lap. Is there anything better? A phone call from a school telling you that your son is winning an award for helping "the least of these" among us? Elijah is witty, charming, handsome and wise. He can be hard-headed and stubborn and needs to understand decisions that are being made. "Because I said so" doesn't work with an old soul.
Matthew 25:44-45
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
I have 2 more years with Eli before he takes flight. Typing that just made my heart skip a beat, but at the same time I can't wait to sit back and watch the waves his wings make in the world.
Oh, and one more thing...he plays guitar REALLY well:)
